About

The TNT Strong Foundation aims to raise awareness of and funding for pediatric cancers, particularly Ewing Sarcoma. Ewing Sarcoma (ES) is a rare bone cancer that impacts roughly 250 children and teens in the United States per year. Treatment for ES still uses chemotherapies discovered in the 1960’s. MRI and PET scan imaging advancement has greatly improved diagnostic, surgical, and radiation results. Clinical research in the early 2000’s has yielded an additional treatment option called tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI). These newer medicines target ES cells to limit their capability of growing and spreading. Due to the rareness of Ewing Sarcoma, it does not get the funding that other cancers receive, even though it mainly affects children.

Tyler's Journey
Tyler Nolan Trexler is the embodiment of strength, perseverance, and purpose. A four-time survivor of Ewing Sarcoma, his journey is defined not by the cancer he’s battled since age 17, but by the unshakable determination with which he has faced every challenge.

Tyler was first diagnosed during his senior year of high school—a time typically marked by celebration and anticipation. Instead of surrendering to fear, he completed school with honors and remained active in the sport he loved, both playing and coaching basketball.

Cancer returned during his sophomore year at UNC Chapel Hill, but Tyler remained undeterred. He continued his studies through treatment and even studied abroad that summer, determined to embrace every opportunity that came his way. A third recurrence arrived the following year, just as he began a consulting internship in Washington, D.C. While undergoing chemotherapy and proton radiation, he juggled a full-time consulting internship and his final year of college. Still, he graduated on time from the Kenan-Flagler Business School, an achievement that reflected his extraordinary resolve.

Through it all, Tyler has turned pain into purpose. He’s raised funds for Duke Children’s Hospital through UNC and Sigma Nu fraternity-led events and even rappelled down a 22-story building to support the hospital’s “Over the Edge” campaign. Today, he continues that mission while working at Siemens Energy in their sales and marketing development program—even as he faces yet another recurrence of Ewing Sarcoma.

The launch of the TNT Strong Foundation is a tribute to the community that has supported Tyler throughout his journey—doctors, PAs, nurses, researchers, coaches, teachers, family, and friends. It exists to channel Tyler’s resilience into impact, offering empathy, hope, and the pursuit of a cure for those affected by pediatric cancer.

The Embodiment of Strength

"Tyler is truly remarkable. It inspires care team members when our patients are chomping at the bit to live their life. He hasn’t let cancer take over his life, and it’s encouraging to see him press on and not be hindered by his treatment or diagnosis.”
