About

The mission of the TNT Strong Foundation is to raise awareness of and funding for pediatric cancers, specifically Ewing Sarcoma. Ewing Sarcoma (ES) is a rare bone cancer that strikes roughly 250 children and teens in the United States each year. Improved MRI and PET scan imaging has greatly enhanced the ability to diagnose this cancer; however, treatment for Ewing Sarcoma still has not advanced beyond the use of chemotherapies discovered in the 1960’s. In addition to the traditional chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation options, clinical research done in the early 2000’s has offered another treatment, tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). These newer discoveries target ES cells limiting their capability to grow and spread. Because Ewing Sarcoma is so rare, it has not received the publicity and necessary funding that other cancers have despite the fact that this disease mainly affects children. We need your help to fund promising new research in CAR T-cell therapy, NK (natural killer) cell therapy, and novel immunotherapies.

Tyler's Journey
Tyler Nolan Trexler is a four-time survivor of Ewing Sarcoma. His journey is not defined by the cancer he has battled since age 17 but by the unshakable determination with which he has faced every challenge. He is the embodiment of strength, perseverance, and purpose.

Tyler was first diagnosed during his senior year of high school—a time typically marked by celebration and anticipation. Instead of surrendering to fear, he graduated high school with honors and remained active in basketball, the sport he loves, both as a player and a coach.

When cancer returned during his sophomore year at UNC Chapel Hill, Tyler remained undeterred. He continued his studies through a difficult treatment schedule and was determined to embrace every opportunity that came his way including studying abroad at the Copenhagen Business School the following summer.  A year later, just as he began a consulting internship in Washington, D.C., the cancer returned for a third time. While yet again undergoing chemotherapy and proton radiation, he juggled a full-time internship and his final year of college. In May of 2024 Tyler graduated from the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, an achievement that reflects his extraordinary resolve.

Through it all, Tyler has turned pain into purpose. He has raised funds for Duke Children’s Hospital through UNC and Sigma Nu fraternity sponsored events. He even rappelled down a 22-story building in Durham to support the Children’s Hospital’s “Over the Edge” campaign and he continues to support that mission today. After graduating from college, Tyler accepted a position at Siemens Energy in their sales and marketing development program and once again today is facing yet another recurrence of Ewing Sarcoma.

The TNT Strong Foundation is a tribute to the community that has supported Tyler throughout his journey—the doctors, PAs, nurses, researchers, coaches, teachers, family, and friends. The Foundation was launched to channel Tyler’s resilience into impact, to offer empathy, to offer hope, and most importantly to find a cure for those stricken by this pediatric cancer.

The Embodiment of Strength

"Tyler is truly remarkable. It inspires care team members when our patients are chomping at the bit to live their life. He hasn’t let cancer take over his life, and it’s encouraging to see him press on and not be hindered by his treatment or diagnosis.”
